Ghanaian Highlife sensation, Kofi Kinaata, has revealed a surprising reason behind his transition from a professional footballer to a musician. In a recent interview on Citi TV’s “The Chat” with Ekow Koomson, Kofi Kinaata shared that affording football boots was a significant hurdle in pursuing a career in the sport.
The talented footballer, who grew up in Efiekuma, Takoradi, admitted that financial constraints played a crucial role in his decision to switch paths. “Money for boots was the main problem…but with music, you don’t need to buy a microphone before you can sing…You just sing then you pass it on to the owner,” he said.
Kofi Kinaata’s accessibility to music, compared to the financial constraints of football, significantly influenced his career choice. Despite enjoying a decade-long career in music and winning the prestigious Songwriter of the Year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards three times, Kofi Kinaata has yet to release an album or EP until now.
However, due to popular demand from his fans, Kofi Kinaata has decided to release his long-awaited EP, “Kofi OO Kofi”. Initially scheduled for April 15, the release date has been rescheduled to either May 3 or 10. His new single, “Efiekuma Broken Heart”, is currently out and gaining traction.
Kofi Kinaata attributed his decision to release the EP to his fans, stating, “I’m here because of the fans, and the fans are the ones pestering me to release an EP or album…Since it’s a team now, and they’re on my neck to release an album, I decided to release it for them to stream.”
The highly anticipated “Kofi OO Kofi” EP promises to be a masterpiece, given Kofi Kinaata’s reputation for crafting thought-provoking and melodious songs. With his unique voice and storytelling ability, Kofi Kinaata continues to captivate audiences and solidify his position as one of Ghana’s most talented musicians.
