At last year’s esteemed Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), there was an unforeseen twist when Ghanaian gospel music star, professionally recognized as Perez Musik, found himself in the limelight as he clinched the highly sought-after Songwriter of the Year Award.
The gifted artist and songwriter, renowned for his soul-stirring melodies and profound lyrics, has openly conveyed genuine astonishment and humility regarding this unforeseen accolade.
During an exclusive interview with Berla Mundi on the Day Show on TV3, the ‘Hewale Lala’ sensation revealed his astonishment at winning the Songwriter of the Year award at the previous year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
He mentioned being up against Kofi Kinaata, a consistent winner in the category, and Fameye, who halted Kofi Kinaata’s streak. Nonetheless, he perceived it as an excellent opportunity to establish a strong presence in Ghana’s music industry.He went on to say that;
“In that category, I had Kofi Kinaata and Fameye, both consistent winners. Even after my win, controversies lingered. I recall hearing Kofi Kinaata express unfamiliarity with me in an interview.
“But that’s alright. Getting to know someone takes time. If that’s the route to getting acquainted with me, then it’s a substantial start,” he expressed.
