Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the Ghanaian journalist who captured the nation’s attention with her remarkable sing-a-thon attempt in December 2023, has revealed that she and her management are taking steps to expedite the verification process.
In an exclusive interview on Joy Prime, Afua disclosed that the standard verification process typically spans 12 weeks. However, due to the popularity of her sing-a-thon, she decided to opt for a priority review after waiting for two weeks. This accelerated review, which comes at a cost of $750, is expected to take only 1–5 days, significantly reducing the usual waiting time.
“Because of the popularity of the event, they requested our files. After two weeks of waiting, we requested a priority review. The normal review takes not less or more than 12 weeks. But if you want it quick, you pay an amount of money, and they review your file within five working days. So that’s what we paid for. Officially, it’s $650, but when you are going to pay, you’ll need to pay some transaction fee, so we did roughly $750,” Afua explained.
The sing-a-thon, characterized by its marathon singing endeavor, took place from December 24 to December 29, 2023, captivating audiences with its impressive duration of 126 hours and 52 minutes. Afua Asantewaa’s vocal journey served as a unifying force during the yuletide season, making Ghanaian music more prominent and fostering a sense of togetherness among Ghanaians.
The decision to pursue a priority review reflects the significance of Afua’s accomplishment and the desire to officially acknowledge and document this extraordinary feat in a more expedited manner. As the verification process advances, Ghanaians eagerly anticipate the official recognition of Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon in record time, highlighting the cultural and musical richness of Ghana on a broader stage.
